Chi-Squared Test for Homogeneity

In class student learned how to conduct a chi-squared test for homogeneity-one categorical variable along two groups.

The notes are attached and the homework is listed below.

Notes - Chi-Squared Test for Homogeneity

HW - pgs.646 (27, 28, 33) and pg. 685 (1, 4a)
          Read pgs. 632-639

Chi-Squared Goodness-of-Fit Test

In class students learned how to complete a chi-squared goodness-of-fit test for categorical data.

The notes are attached as is a video from Khan Academy showing how to conduct the test.  The homework is listed below.

Notes - Chi-Squared Goodness-of-Fit

Khan Academy Video - Chi-Squared Goodness-of-Fit

HW - Complete pg. 643 (5, 7, 9) and pg. 614 (23)
          Read pgs. 626-632
Finish investigative Task #11 - SAT (II)

Paired Samples and Blocks

In class students were introduced to hypothesis test for paired samples (observational studies) and blocks (experiment).  When conducting a t-test for the difference the samples should be paired.

The notes are attached as it the Investigative Task.  The homework is listed below.

Notes - Paired Samples and Blocks

HW - Investigative Task #11  - Due Monday March 30th
          Read pgs. 618 - 626 (Chi-Squared Test - Goodness of Fit)
          *Finish make-up work 3/27*

Quiz - Inference in for means and proportions

In class students took a quiz on inference (confidence intervals/hypothesis testing) for sample means and sample proportions.

HW - Read Chapter 25, if you have not done so already, paired samples and blocks

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

Quiz Review - Inference for proportions and means

In class we reviewed inference for sample proportions and sample means.  Remember, whenever inference is involved (confidence interval/hypothesis testing), make sure to check the specific assumptions and conditions.

HW - Study for Quiz
       - Read Chapter 25 - Paired Samples
       - Finish Investigative Task - SAT scores

Comparing Means

In class students learned how to calculate a confidence interval and conduct a hypothesis test for the difference of means.  For a hypothesis test, you must complete the following:

1. Find sample means/std. deviations-use comparative box plots to compare distributions.

2. Generate null and alternative  hypothesis from above data and data displays.

3. Check Assumptions and Conditions:
                                           a. Independent Assumption (Random/Less than 10%)
                                           b. Independent Groups Assumption (no overlap/no interaction)
                                           c. Nearly Normal Assumption - (draw histograms/n > 30?)

4. Identify and Complete test - t-test/p-value

5. State conclusion in context and provide confidence interval.

Notes - Comparing Means

HW - pgs. 581-583 (12, 13, 21, 27, 31)
Investigative Task #10 - SAT Scores
         *Quiz Thursday March 19th

Inferences for means

In class students learned how to generate a confidence interval and conduct a hypothesis test for the sample means.  Almost all the time we do not have the population standard deviation (if we did, we could use a Z-interval/Z-test) so we use a t-interval or t-test.

The homework is listed below and the notes are attached.

Notes - Inference for Means

HW - pgs. 557-558 (31, 37, 38, 39)
          read Chapter 24 pgs. (560-576)

Two Proportion z-intervals and z-tests

In class students were introduced to two proportions z-intervals and z-tests.  Comparing two proportions is often more interesting than comparing one proportion (ex. experiments).  The only new assumption you must identify is the independent group assumption as the two groups must be independent or no overlap.

The homework is listed below and the notes are attached.

Notes - Two Proportion z-intervals and z-tests

HW - pgs. 528 (24, 29, 31)
          read pgs. 530-545

Quiz and Investigative Task #9

In class students took a quiz on confidence intervals and hypothesis testing for sample proportions.  Afterwards, students were given an investigative task to complete by next Monday, March 9.

Quiz Review - CI and HT for 1 Porportion

In class we reviewed confidence intervals and hypothesis tests.  We also touched upon Type I and Type II error.

HW - Study for Quiz
Read Chapter 22 - Testing Two Proportions

***Investigative Task #9 - Life After High School***

Due: Monday, March 9
